How Google Generative UI is Transforming Search with Interactive Visuals

Google is officially shifting Search from static text responses to dynamic, interactive experiences. With the rollout of Generative UI, users can now generate custom tools, simulations, and interactive visuals directly inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. This evolution fundamentally changes how users digest information and how creators must optimize for visibility.


Understanding Concepts With Interactive Visuals

Google's newly announced learning example focuses on the pH scale.

Someone beginning to learn about acidity and alkalinity can search for something as straightforward as “ph scale.” Google says an AI Overview may now present an interactive visual that helps explain the fundamentals of the scale.




The important part is that the experience does not necessarily have to stop with the initial explanation.

A learner could continue into AI Mode and ask something more specific, such as displaying different citrus fruits along the pH scale. AI Mode can then generate a customized experience designed around that follow-up question.

That is quite different from finding one static pH diagram and trying to mentally adapt it to your question. The interface itself can potentially be produced around the information you are asking about.

Google describes these experiences as custom tools and simulations intended to help users see complex subjects in action.


Global Rollout for Generative Search


Generative UI capabilities have launched globally in English in AI Mode and have started rolling out in AI Overviews. This means users are already experiencing dynamic interfaces built in real-time.


These generative capabilities assemble visual components on the fly, including:

  • Interactive diagrams and graphs.

  • Dynamic tables that react to specific variables.

  • Physics simulations, like a swinging pendulum demonstrating kinetic energy.

  • Custom layouts and control panels.


How to Try Interactive Visuals in Google Search

Search for a concept such as “printer comparison interactive scale” and check whether an interactive visual appears in the AI Overview.

For something more customized, switch to AI Mode and describe the learning experience you want. For example, you might ask Search to create an interactive diagram with the prompt "show me how different printers compare on an interactive scale", rather than simply asking it to explain the concept.

You can then use follow-up questions to refine the experience.

Google's help documentation specifically recommends making the requested format clear. For example, explicitly asking for a simulation, interactive visual, diagram, calculator or interactive model.

The ability to refine the generated tool is especially significant because the first visualization does not have to be the final one. If it is too simple, too advanced or focused on the wrong variables, you can continue the conversation and ask AI Mode to adjust it.


The Future of Learning in Search Is More Interactive

Google Search's new interactive visuals point toward a different relationship between search, AI and education.

A difficult concept no longer has to be answered with only a collection of links, a summary or a static diagram. Depending on the question, Search may be able to build an interactive model specifically around what the learner wants to investigate.

For a student, that might mean manipulating a science simulation.

For someone learning finance, it could mean exploring an interactive calculator.

For another learner, it might be a diagram or visual model that changes as they ask increasingly specific questions.

The technology is still evolving, and generated results need to be evaluated carefully. But the direction is notable: AI-powered Search is moving from generating answers toward generating experiences.
